Jesus is Better! A Study of the book of Hebrews continues.
Hebrew 3:1-6 starts with a reminder to consider Jesus Christ, Who is the Apostle and High Priest of our confession of faith. He is compared to Moses who was also faithful to his calling. Numbers 12:6 says that he, Moses, was faithful in God’s house and that God spoke to him face to face. Here in Hebrews 3:1-6 we see that this Apostle and High Priest, Jesus, has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses. Why? Because he who builds the house has more honor than the house. Moses was a faithful servant in the house to later testify of what was to come. Jesus however, was not only faithful over the house, He also built the house. This house, is a dwelling place for God the Father, it is made up of those who have put their faith and who’s boast is in the Lord Jesus Christ, our Apostle and High Priest.
As a child did you ever exchange and received Valentine cards or gifts in school? There was always that one card or gift that you knew meant a little more than the others. The card that you knew that special someone put a little more into it. Whether the actual message in the card said a little more, or the card came with a special gift. Well, the Gift of God’s Son sent to the world meant a lot more than all the other prophets or angels God used to testify of His plan for salvation. Jesus is that special Valentine that God sent to begin construction on His house (Ephesians 2:19-22).
Setting aside any trivial debate about Valentine’s Day, and finding agreement in the simple definition for “Valentine” (a person singled out as one’s sweetheart) we see Jesus is a Better Valentine than any other. God the Father singled out Jesus, and sent Him to be received by us. In doing so we become His and He becomes ours.
Listen to the heart of Jesus as He prayed to God about you and me. “Father, I want those you gave me to be with me, right where I am, so they can see my glory, the splendor you gave me, having loved me long before there ever was a world. Righteous Father, the world has never known you, but I have known you, and these disciples know that you sent me on this mission. I have made your very being known to them–– Who you are and what you do –– And continue to make it known, So that your love for me might be in them exactly as I am in them”. – John 17:24-26
What a prayer, what a gift. Jesus has been singled out and sent by God for us to receive Him as our Sweetheart. Jesus is saying to you and me today… ME MINE! If you have never received Jesus Christ into your life, we invite you to do so. Make this Valentine’s Day one to never forget.
